Q: I cannot get Online and it is telling me Error 691. What's going on?
A: There can be several things that can cause this.
Make sure you are typing your password in correctly. Also
make sure that everything is typed in all lowercase letters.
If you use capital letters, it will not work. Ulink does not
allow more than one person online with the same account at
one time. If someone else is using your account at the time,
you will not be able to get on.
Q: I am getting a very slow connection speed. What is going on?
A: Try dialing up to another number local to you.
If this does not improve your speed, try changing the phone
cord going into the computer. If the phone line has a lot
of static, this can also cause slow connections. If you have
more that one phone line in your house, it is possible that
the phone company split one phone line into two separate lines.
An analog phone line that is only used for making phone calls
does not require as much throughput as a connection to the
internet.
Q: I can connect but I can't browse the web, what's wrong?
A: Try restarting your computer first. Sometimes if your computer does not make a full connection
to the servers or has been on for a long time, some problems may occur. Early versions of Windows 95 require
you to specify a DNS address for you to be able to do anything. Visit the appropriate Dial-Up walkthrough to
see how to set these up.
Q: Why do I keep getting kicked off line?
A: If you have call waiting on your telephone line,
you will get kicked off line when a call comes in. To fix
this put *70, before the Ulink dialup number. This will disable
call waiting on your phone for that call. If your computer
is hooked up to a phone line that has an answering machine
connected between the phone jack and the computer, problems
can arise. Also, if the phone line from the computer to the
wall outlet is more than 10ft this can cause problems
with your connection due to line noise. If your phone company
is working on the lines between your house and our modem banks,
this will cause problems and disconnects. This problem is
beyond our control. To see if your phone lines are being worked
on please call your phone company.
